The problem you speak of is usually caused by a defective spindle motor. That is the little dc motor that spins the dvd. It has to spin within a range of RPM for the dvd to be read at all. I bought a really NICE used player at the Salvation Army Store for $12! that was $12 well spent...better than all the time it took me to take the Panasonic apart and fiddle with it and still didn't work!
